Republican Sen. Ron Johnson is single-handedly blocking the nomination of a University of Wisconsin law professor to the 7th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals – a nominee who though likely no ideological soul mate of the freshman senator appears to be well-qualified and who was nominated before Johnson even took office.
Johnson’s single-minded opposition to Victoria Nourse seems more of a political game than anything else and one that he should put a quick end to.
Johnson’s actions have aroused strong opposition. A group of 53 legal academics, some of whom served former Republican President George W. Bush, were sharply critical of Johnson.
