What a bizarre inning that is sure to be talked about for some time. With two on and two out, manager Ron Roenicke removes Matt Garza and makes a call to the bullpen. But something goes wrong. First it appears lefty Zach Duke is coming out. Then lefty Will Smith comes out. Then the Braves challenge the substitution and the umps go to replay. They rule Smith is the pitcher but apparently he had no warmups. What a mess. Then Gerald Laird hits a bouncer off the glove of diving third baseman Mark Reynolds that caroms into shallow left for what becomes an RBI double. With the infield in, pinch-hitter Ryan Doumit singles past shortstop Jean Segura to give Atlanta a 5-4 lead. Then the Brewers think they get a force at second only to have Braves challenge it and win on replay. It is complete madness as we have another very long replay challenge. The Brewers finally escape but are down, 5-4. Unbelievable inning.
