….according to a recent study by the Pew Charitable Trust, Wisconsin was ranked No. 1 one among the states in administration of the 2008 presidential election vote, although it dropped to No. 8 during the 2010 midterm election. Analysis of the 2012 election is not available yet.
The study ranked states based on 17 different metrics, all of which were weighted equally in the final score. Among other things, the metrics measured turnout, average time voters wait at the polls, the availability of state election data, accessibility to the polls for the disabled or ill and the number of provisional or absentee ballots that are disqualified.
Wisconsin performs particularly well in turnout. Only Minnesota, with a 2008 turnout of 78.1 percent, was higher than Wisconsin’s rate of 72.7 percent.
